Bill and I first met during my freshman (his sophomore) year of college. My best friend from high school, Katie, went to Tulsa University. While on spring break from Notre Dame, I visited Katie at TU. She introduced me to all of her friends, Bill amongst them. We had an instant connection, and for the next several years we kept in touch via telephone and instant message, and I always made sure to see him anytime I visited Katie.
In August 2007 I finished college and moved to Austin, TX - just as Bill was leaving Houston to go get his master's at the University of Delaware! Luckily, the following summer he returned to Houston to stay with his parents. He had several close friends in Austin in addition to me, so he ended up spending a good part of the summer there, and we finally had a chance to spend large amounts of time with each other! By the end of the summer, we had decided that the only way we would ever end up living in the same place is if we made the plunge and started being an official couple!
So, on August 10th, 2008, Bill and I commited to our relationship - and a week later he went back to Delaware. We talked on the phone every day (well, we missed 4 days over the year, but still pretty good!), and visited each other as often as possible. Though his thesis is still in progress, Bill got all of his classes done by June 2009, and he moved to Austin!!! Since then, Bill and I have spent most of our time together - particularly since I got him a temporary job working at MyEdu.com with me, and we are sharing my car.
So on December 10, 2009 (our 16th monthiversary), Bill and I went to look at Christmas lights. We were walking on a street that is well known in Austin for its extravagant Christmas displays, and in front of my favorite house, Bill got down on one knee and very romantically (particularly for him!) proposed!
